Symptom

You click on "start" in Functional Ear Trainer, and you don't hear any sound.

Cause

If you don't hear anything while using Functional Ear Trainer, it has to do with your MIDI settings or volume settings.

Solution

Go to the Control Panel and click on "Sounds and Audio Devices".
You'll get a screen with several tabs.

One of them is Sound. Make sure sound is enabled and that the volume is at a reasonable level. Then click on the Advanced button and check that the volume controls "SW Synth" and "Wave" are not muted and at a reasonable level. Close the volume window.

Then click on the Audio tab. Select a MIDI music playback device.
Preferably the first one. Remember which one it is.

Go to Functional Ear Trainer and go to the Tools menu --> MIDI Setup.
Select the same MIDI device as in the previous step.

That should do it.
