The idea for Functional Ear Trainer did not originate from a need to make money. I just wanted a good ear training tool to improve my musical ear. And so I developed one for myself.

But because I found Functional Ear Trainer so useful, I wanted to share it with my friends, and then later with the internet community.

Here are some other reasons why it is free (in random order):

• I don't need to live in a big house, have a swimming pool, and fancy cars to be happy in life
• I spent quite some money on music books, instruction DVD's, guitar lessons, CD's etc. A lot were not useful at all, and thus a waste of money. So why make you pay for Functional Ear Trainer? You might not find it useful. :-)
• I have internet access since 1995. I learned a lot of things from people who just shared "stuff" for free. I am glad I can give something back.
• I use a lot of free software on a daily basis too: Joomla!, Firefox, Notepad++, Pegasus Mail, VLC media player, Audacity, TortoiseSVN, XAMPP, IETester, IrfanView, Exact Audio Copy, KeePass Password Safe, trac ...
• Most artists and musicians are broke.
• According to my website statistics, I have visitors from more than 100 different countries. "free" is the only affordable price in all countries and for all people.
